John Hart—the Gymnast Inventor.
John was 3Com’s CTO for most of a decade. He was instrumental in bringing boundary routing to 3Com, and helping the company go after the low-end of the routing market.
In college, John was a high jumper on the University of Georgia track team. One of his defining college memories was when the gymnastics coach offered him a position on the cheerleading squad. John replied, “Is this a test, or trick question? Of course I’ll do that!” John recalled the success of the squad, “We were terrible show-offs – I would jump on the goal post and do handstands. Sports Illustrated wrote us up because we were the early cheerleaders that were actually doing athletic things.”
