Aside from inventing all kinds of technology that changed the world, 3Com was a company that believed in using technology for social good. As David Katz shared in our book 3Com, “…East Side Union School district… we got the whole thing networked in one day. There were probably 200 people from 3Com. You talk about a soul of 3Com—that day was incredible. It left the infrastructure that jumpstarted these schools to get connected in a way that really transformed education. There was a passion in the company for getting these schools connected….there really was this spirit of giving as it unfolded.
When you buy our paperback at Amazon (or anything else at Amazon), you have the opportunity to do a little bit of social good yourself, thanks to their AmazonSmile program. If you're not familiar with it, AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, its exactly like Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization.
We were curious what causes were important to some 3Com alums -- here's what we heard from them:
· Eric Benhamou, has his Smile set on Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
· Debra Engel support Facing History and Ourselves.
· Tom Werner casts his AmazonSmile vote for Just Read.
These and another million charities are available to use when you set up your Smile preferences. It costs you nothing – think of it as Amazon's tip jar (on their nickel). Consider visiting smile.amazon.com now to set it up if you're not already participating. (Oh, and our book is ready whenever you are!)
